Everyone knows how to play freeze tag, but have you tried it with water spray bottles? This refreshing version adds splashy fun to a game kids already love.
The cool mist from spray bottles makes this perfect for hot summer days. It’s active enough to burn energy but cooling enough to play even when temperatures soar!

What You’ll Need
You’ll need some water spray bottles for this game. You can find them at most dollar stores or if you have some laying around the house, even better!
Make sure the spray bottles have an adjustable nozzle. Set them to mist or stream depending on how wet you want players to get.
Fill bottles with cool water. On very hot days, you might even add a few ice cubes.
How to Play
One player begins as “it” and carries a spray bottle filled with water. They chase other players around the designated play area.
When “it” tags someone by spraying them with water, that person freezes in place. The cool spray makes getting tagged much more fun than in regular freeze tag!
Frozen players must stand still until a teammate can tag them to unfreeze them. This creates lots of laughs and quick strategy changes.
The game ends when all players are frozen, or after a set time period. Then a new person becomes “it” and the fun begins again.
You’ll want to establish clear boundaries for the play area before starting. Make sure everyone understands where they can and cannot run.
This game works well for groups of 4-10 children and provides plenty of running, dodging, and cooling off on hot days.
For extra excitement, designate “safe zones” where players can rest for 10 seconds without being tagged. This gives everyone a chance to catch their breath during the game.
