35 Fun and Easy Ways for 13-Year-Olds to Earn Money

Finding a legitimate way to make money when you are young is challenging. And while you cannot typically run out and get a job until you are 14-16, that doesn’t mean you’re stuck in terms of making money!

Although it may be challenging to find the right opportunity to make money as a 13-year-old, there are several options.

Sell Things You Don’t Need

Take stock of what you have that you either don’t wear anymore or don’t need.

If you are looking to make some quick cash, there are several places you can list items for sale, such as:

Some listings require a small fee and some are free– you’ll need to do your research.

Either way you’ll likely need the help of an adult to list on any sale sites if you are under the age of eighteen. When you list items for sale, keep these things in mind:

Honesty

You always want to present an honest representation of the item you’re selling. The last thing you want is to sell an item that was misrepresented. If parts are missing or there are scratches, be sure to share that information.

Permission

Ask permission before you begin to sell things. While the items may not be necessary to you, your parents may have a different idea. They may also help you find something that you could sell to make some money.

Safety

Always have an adult help you with selling items. It can be challenging to navigate the selling field, and you want to make sure you are doing it correctly and that there are legitimate sellers.

CraftS

If you are artistic and enjoy being creative, you can quickly turn your hobby into a source of income.

If you are ready into starting your own business, there are a few things to remember:

Budget

You will need to set and stick to a budget. It would be best to have an adult help with this plan. Your budget will need to include:

  • Start-up fees (to purchase materials to begin the business)
  • Supply fees (to replenish supplies as needed)

While you may have many supplies on hand to begin your business, if it takes off, you will likely find yourself in need of more supplies and will subsequently need money to purchase the supplies to keep up with the demand.

Pricing

When you begin selling your crafts, you will want to set a reasonable price. It may seem like a good idea to set the price low so people will buy the item, but if you set it too low, you may not make any profit but instead be out money spent to create your crafts.

To set a price, you want to think about these things:

  1. How much does it cost for the materials for one item?
  2. How much time does it take to make?
  3. How much do I want to make on the sale (profit)?

If you keep these things in mind, you will likely be able to price your item at a level that is appealing to the consumer, yet beneficial to you.

Time

Always keep the amount of time you want to spend creating in mind. If you are busy with activities, you may only have a couple of hours a week to devote to crafting. The time you have to work will determine how much you’ll be able to create.

Create Printables

If you are good with computers and technology, you may make money by creating printable items. You can sell these items on sites like Teachers Pay Teachers and Etsy. You could even create your own website.

Printables are a great way to make money, but you need to follow copyright laws when making them. You must create and sell original content. If you have any part of another person’s work in your document, you could get in trouble so be sure to do your research.
